Musicdance021 | 2019 archive
MusicDance021 ran from the 25th of February – 7th April 2019 at the Thetare Arts Admin Collective and the UCT School of Dance. 5 interdisciplinary workshops were held at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective and 10 movement training classes at the University of Cape Town’s School of Dance. Five performances were held at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective as part of the programme.
The Sunday improvisation workshops focissed on sharpening composition skills, expanding interdisciplinary listening and providing a technique towards creating real-time-composed music and dance performances. Musicians and dancers were guided through improvisation structures as a way of extending their ability to create performances together.
The focus of the movement training classes was more specifically for dancers to develop their individual movement research. Through softening the joints and working with clear alignment and functional pathways we brought attention to the mechanics of the body and the easeful connection of directing the weight through gravity. We guided movers to work with anatomically conscious choices. The classes drew on release technique, somatic bodywork, developmental pathways and improvisation technique.
MUSICDANCE021 IS KINDLY SUPPORTED BY ACT AND NEDBANK ARTS AFFINITY AND IN ASSOCIATION WITH IAN BURGESS-SIMPSON PIANOS.
